way’, Hello. McDougall Creek wildfire salvage operations were completed in early winter. Rehabilitation projects and planting to begin this spring.
“This spring we are conducting one of our largest planting programs. There will be 565,000 seedlings planted...”
NRLP completed wildfire mitigation work adjacent to the Brookhaven Care Facility. The resulting slash was chipped and some sent to InnoTech in Alberta for testing to determine viability to produce wood fibre insulation board. Ongoing mitigation work continues in the Community Forest in the Upper Glenrosa and Trepanier bench areas.
This spring we are conducting one of our largest planting programs. There will be 565,000 seedlings planted, and 1,100 huckleberry plants added throughout the community forest. In addition to the huckleberries, we’ll be planting a mixture of Douglas-fir, Ponderosa Pine, Lodgepole Pine, White Spruce, and Western Larch.
This spring our logging contractor will be conducting a selection cut up Glenrosa Road near the Telemark Ski Area. This cut will target the removal of the smaller trees and retaining the largest. This treatment is intended to open the forest canopy, allowing more light to hit the forest floor while retaining sufficient cover to provide for mule deer habitat. It will also help mitigate the wildfire hazard in the area by removing fuels and reducing tree density.
